Traditional Chinese Martial Art Training

At Shaolin Gym Kung-Fu we teach White Crane Jow-Gar Tiger Leopard Fist Kung-Fu. The two styles compliment each other, Yin & Yang Hard & Soft.

Empty hand fighting sets, Kung-Fu animal forms plus a variety of traditional training is incorporated into our syllabus. Various weapons sets and forms are also taught at a later stage of your training.

Practical Self-Defence

We believe that we train for Health and Self-Defence at Shaolin Gym Kung-Fu. Giving you practical skills that you could use to defend yourself in a time of need.

Pad work, sparring, fighting sets will make you faster, more aware of your surroundings and build a solid defence. Knife defence, ground work and Chin-Na techniques are taught.

Our ratified syllabus is effective no matter the age or fitness level and we run fully structured classes for all levels to train together. Sifu Richard will give you the support and encouragement needed to excel in our martial art, enhance fitness levels and boost confidence.

ABOUT US

Shaolin Gym Kung-Fu Hampton

2010 – 2016

Sifu Richard started his Kung-Fu journey in late 2010 while keeping up boxing and marathon training however eventually focused directly on learning Kung-Fu. Sifu Bob Stannells taught the full syllabus of Shaolin Gym Kung-Fu over extensive weekly classes and weekend training to enable Sifu Richard to gain his Black Sash in late 2016.

2017 – 2021

Sifu Richard and his Kung-Fu brother Sifu Peter decided to take their knowledge gained to a new level and teach the community of Hampton in April 2017. We moved to the larger hall location of Hampton Sea Scouts Hall in 2019.

2021 – Present

Sifu Richard continues to teach in Hampton at the Hampton Sea Scouts Hall after many of the restrictions of lockdown. To this day Sifu Richard is dedicated to learning further and teaching others. The syllabus for Shaolin Gym Kung-Fu was ratified and licensed in November 2023 by the BMABA which we are proud of.

Skills

Sifu Richard teaches White Crane Jow-Gar Tiger Leopard Fist traditional Kung-Fu forms and training techniques to help forge your body, grow your spirit and regain focus. Empty hand fighting sets, traditional Kung-Fu weapons sets and forms including the Fai Biu – Nine Section Steel Whip. Escrema training, knife defence as well as practical Self-Defence.

Education

Sifu Richard was taught by Sifu Bob Stannells. Sifu Bob was taught Northern Shaolin White Crane Fist Kung-Fu in London’s Chinatown. In 1977 he opened his first Gymnasium and later on went on to learn Southern Shaolin Jow-Gar Tiger Leopard Fist Kung-Fu. Sifu Bob Stannells has performed in Hong Kong, Singapore , Malaysia and China.

Sifu Richard has a Lead Instructor level of the British Martial Arts & Boxing Association (BMABA). DBS Enhanced checked (2025), Safeguarding in Martial Arts Qualification (BMABA), First Aid Trained (RQF Level 3). BMABA Level 1 Instructor Training Qualification. BMABA Level 2 Instructor Training Qualification.

Shaolin Gym Kung-Fu are members of the British Martial Arts & Boxing Association who are an award winning association with membership in excess of 60,000 covering the whole of the United Kingdom. The BMABA are recognised as one of the leading bodies for professional standards, promotion of grass roots participation and charitable engagement through martial arts. The BMABA also represent and support martial arts clubs and participants across more than one hundred and fifty disciplines and styles.

Our syllabus has been ratified by the BMABA for structure and grading’s. This adds credibility and the national verification from the BMABA. Sifu Richard is a registered instructor and our gym is checked & registered by our association.

We have an clear system for fees. First class is free. Then either Pay as You Go formula or a discounted Monthly fee. If paying monthly and you do not attend the class fee is not carried over. BMABA Membership must be continued to train.
